Shrimp Saganaki | Baked Greek Shrimp Skillet

Named after the two-handled frying pan (“saganaki”) it’s traditionally cooked in, this dish is a celebration of Greek flavors. Succulent shrimp are simmered in a garlicky tomato sauce and finished under the broiler with salty, creamy feta.

Coastal Fresh 20 Minutes High Protein

Mediterranean Ingredients

  • 1 lb Large Shrimp (peeled & deveined)
  • 1 can (14 oz) Crushed Tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup Feta Cheese (crumbled)
  • 1/4 cup Ouzo or Dry White Wine
  • 3 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 1/2 Yellow Onion (diced)
  • 1 tsp Dried Oregano
  • Fresh Parsley & Lemon Wedges

Cooking Steps

  1. Sauté the Aromatics: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). In an oven-proof skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté the onion and garlic until soft and translucent (about 5 minutes).
  2. Deglaze & Simmer: Pour in the Ouzo or wine. Let it bubble for 1 minute, then add the crushed tomatoes and oregano. Simmer for 10 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  3. Add the Shrimp: Nestle the raw shrimp into the sauce in a single layer. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper.
  4. The Feta Finish: Sprinkle the crumbled feta generously over the top.
  5. Bake: Transfer the skillet to the oven. Bake for 8-10 minutes. Pro Move: Turn on the broiler for the last 2 minutes to get those brown, caramelized spots on the feta.
  6. Garnish: Finish with a heavy sprinkle of fresh parsley and a squeeze of lemon. Serve with crusty bread for dipping!

Barista Tip: Don’t overcook the shrimp in the oven! They should just turn pink and opaque. The residual heat from the bubbling tomato sauce will finish the job without making them tough.
